Caesar vom Eckenstein (Caesar of the corner stone)

When we first brought Caesar home breeding Drahthaars was the furthest thing from our thoughts.  We wanted a great hunting dog and a confident and friendly pet.  After waiting over a year we were fortunate enough to get pick of the litter.  From the very first week the pups were born until the day we finally brought Caesar home we visited them to try and decide which one we wanted.  By Caesar's first hunting season we were sure we had made the right decision as to which puppy was right for us.  Although different than our first DD, Caesar was proving himself in every way as an outstanding hunting dog and loving family pet.  At the age of seven month Caesar demonstrated his boldness by dispatching a red fox that had come in to our bird pen for what it thought would be an easy meal.

By the time Caesar's VJP came around we had already logged hundreds of hours of upland bird hunting and some of the hours with preserve clients.  Still being young but having a good idea of what bird hunting was suppose to be, it is understanding why during his pointing evaluation he perform less then I had hoped.   Caesar search the field like a true bird dog should covering every bit of the field in search of game, but when he came to the bird planters scent he immediately tracked him to the planted quail where he wasted no time in grabbing it from its hiding place under the grass and proudly retrieving it to me.  After a short pow-wow the judges ask me to have Caesar search an area that they saw a quail fly into.  He quickly located and pointed the quail with several relocating points as the quail ran down the hedgerow.  Other than this little mishap getting him a 7 in pointing, he received all 10s for the remainder of the test.

Later on Caesar shows hundreds of strangers during an outdoor show his gentleness with even the smallest of children.  His second hunting season he is ready to be a full time guide dog for our upland game bird hunting clients.  Pointing, tracking cripples and retrieving hundreds of pheasant, quail and chukar he is always the highlight of every hunt.  Caesar shows us in this HZP that he can earn an 11 with his rock solid point even after one of the covey flies off.  This demonstration also earned him an 11 in nose, with a final score of 180 points.
